A picky eater differs from a problem feeder. A child with choking during mealtime, diagnosed with failure to thrive, and/or significant medical conditions is not a picky eater. A picky eater typically does not have significant developmental or medial issues. Generally, your child should consume between 15-20 different foods by age 3. Diversity of foods is critical as well; you want to ensure the child has at least 3 different foods in each food group (breads/grains, fruits, vegetables, meats) and are not specific to brand or color. At Speech By The Beach Consulting LLC in Naples, Florida, we provide comprehensive evaluation and evidence-based treatment for picky eaters (and problem feeders, too).
